How much of your "Made in America" vehicle ACTUALLY is Made in America? You will be surprised by these numbers...

How much of your "Made in America" car is actually made in America?  Below is a list of cars and their content of American made/sourced parts in percentage terms. It is interesting to note the domestic and foreign mix of manufacturers.  Toyota, Honda and Acura have vehicles with MORE American made parts than many of the US manufacturers.

We have to re-think what it means to "Buy American"--could it really mean "Buy Japanese to get Made in America"???...

  1. What was that we learned in the first couple weeks, though? If a country is more efficient at a certain product, they should specialize and trade that product for other goods? So that, all together, a higher productivity is reached and incomes of all increase? So maybe American cars buying parts from other countries and then selling these countries our cars is a -good- thing :)

  2. I do not see a huge problem here because technically cars are assembled in America so they are made in America except for some parts. Plus if other countries are exporting us parts that probably means they might not have all the parts either so they would import some of our parts as well, which is kind of a win win.

  3. This is pretty eye opening. This benefits the U.S., If it's cheaper to buy parts from somewhere else, then do it. I remember you say something like each country must stick with what they so best, so if we make cars with other parts, then so be it. Where it's made goes a long way in the eyes of a consumer, alot of people buy things cause they were made in america. This also counts toward are GDP, which is a good thing.
